SBC Summit 2026 will bring around 40,000 gaming professionals from more than 150 countries to Lisbon from 29 September to 1 October, but the significance of this year's gathering goes beyond its size. The conference agenda shows an iGaming industry increasingly focused on the technology behind the player experience: AI, payments, casino product design, compliance, crypto, responsible gambling and the infrastructure powering modern casino apps.
Taking place across Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL) and the MEO Arena, the summit is expected to feature more than 800 exhibitors and sponsors and 600 speakers, alongside specialist conferences, technology academies, networking programs and product demonstrations.
Lisbon matters because many of the questions being discussed at the conference are precisely the questions that increasingly determine whether a casino app is actually good.
How quickly can players withdraw? How much friction should KYC introduce? Where should AI be used? How securely can operators integrate crypto? How should apps intervene when gambling behavior becomes risky? And how can casino platforms deliver personalization without creating new privacy and compliance problems?

SBC has reorganized its 2026 conference program around major areas including Technology & Innovation, Regulation & Compliance, Global & Emerging Markets, payments, and affiliate marketing.
The Technology & Innovation program is particularly relevant for casino apps. Sessions will address iGaming product and design, customer experience, and the technology infrastructure supporting modern gambling platforms.
There is also a more practical educational layer.
Four dedicated Tech Academies will cover AI, Player Experience, Digital Marketing & CRM, and Web3 & Crypto, using demonstrations, case studies, workshops and expert-led sessions rather than relying exclusively on conventional conference panels.
That shift is significant.
Casino technology discussions have traditionally concentrated heavily on content: which slots are launching, which providers have signed distribution deals and which operators have added another thousand games.
The conversation in Lisbon looks increasingly focused on what happens around those games.
Login systems, UX, personalization, payments, CRM, security and responsible-gambling technology are becoming competitive differentiators.

It could increasingly be the one that makes sophisticated compliance processes almost invisible to legitimate users without weakening the controls behind them.
Regulation Is Becoming a Product-Design Issue
SBC Summit will also introduce Regulatory Gaming Meet-Ups connecting attendees with experts and stakeholders representing more than 20 jurisdictions.
Alongside those meetings, dedicated conference content will examine global regulation, player protection and compliance technology.
This reflects another important change in iGaming.
Regulation increasingly affects what happens directly on the smartphone screen.
Deposit limits affect payment interfaces. Responsible-gambling rules affect notifications and account dashboards. KYC requirements affect registration. Advertising rules influence push notifications and promotions. Data-protection requirements influence personalization.
Compliance is therefore no longer something that happens exclusively inside an operator's legal department.
Regulation is becoming part of UX design.

Lisbon will also feature a new Product Innovation Showcase Stage, combining live demonstrations, an innovation conference program and SBC's First Pitch startup competition.
This could provide an early indication of where casino technology is heading next.
The innovations worth watching are not necessarily another collection of games. They include AI-powered interfaces, smarter recommendation engines, frictionless identity verification, fraud detection, payment orchestration, personalized responsible-gambling tools and technologies capable of making casino platforms faster without compromising security.
Uplatform, for example, says it will demonstrate technology covering casino, sportsbook, payments, analytics and localization in Lisbon, illustrating how formerly separate parts of an operator's technology stack are increasingly being brought together.
Malta Is Bringing More Than Its Regulator
Another interesting development is Malta's first coordinated “Make It In Malta” presence at SBC Summit.
The Malta Gaming Authority will appear alongside GamingMalta, Identità, Malta Enterprise and Bank of Valletta, creating a combined proposition covering regulation, business infrastructure, identity and visas, investment and banking.
It demonstrates how competition between iGaming jurisdictions is evolving.
Licensing remains fundamental, but operators also need payment infrastructure, talent, technology, banking and access to international markets.
The modern iGaming ecosystem cannot easily separate regulation from technology or financial infrastructure.

The biggest story from Lisbon may ultimately be what the event tells us about the direction of the industry.
